Mommy + Me Mini Session are one of my favorite types of shoots.
At the start of my business journey I decided to come up with a manifesto, something I would later go on to tack onto my big wall of goals, and all over my whiteboards so I never forget why I do - what I do. As a woman, I am constantly faced with unreasonable societal expectations of me. Things that no one needs to say, but are silently understood. The world picks apart our appearances, our career choices, our motherhood decisions, our relationships... our entire lives seem to be under a microscope at all times, and with social media - this microscope has gone macro. Everyones lives are on display; we are playing one big game of compare and contrast.
I struggled for years with my own self-image, and it wasn't until I began doing photography that I began to take charge of my image. Being in front of the lens is a way to make a statement about yourself, to claim your own authority, while also understanding that the next time a photo is taken... you may look different, and that is what makes you human. And how lucky are we to be able to shift and change whenever we please? It is such a gift to age... to grow.
In a world that only wants us to shrink, the best way to say "f*ck you" is to continue to grow and change.
So I promise - to anyone who steps in front of my lens - to show your light and beauty in a way that does not objectify you. My business is centered around empowering women. The mothers and daughters and aunts and grandmothers who keep us afloat, the life makers and savers, the business owners and entertainers, and so on and so forth. These photo sessions are not only a way to spend time with your child, but also a time to celebrate yourself and the incredible, shapeshifting, woman that you are.
